JULES VERNE

Jules Gabriel Verne was born in 1828, in Nantes, France. He is considered to be the founding father of science fiction and the creator of many imaginary inventions that became reality: helicopters, modern weapons, movies with sound, television and rockets. He inspired scientists, explorers and builders. As a boy, Jules Verne ran off to be a cabin boy on a merchant ship, but he was caught and returned to his parents. In 1847, Jules went to study law in Paris but he stopped in 1850. He started to sell stories to make money. After spending many hours in Paris libraries studying geology, engineering and astronomy, he published his first novel "Five Weeks in a Balloon" in 1851. Jules Verne was fascinated by scientific progress and inventions and his works were often written in the form of travel books. Among his best-known books are "From the Earth to the Moon "(1865), "A Journey to the Centre of the Earth" (1864)," Around the World in Eighty Days "(1873) or "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". Verne married Honorine de Viane at the age of twenty-eight. She had two children. They had a son called Michel. Jules died in Amiens on 24th March 1905.
